A little #Ticats morning reading – and a change in reporting

July 29, 2010 in CFL News by Drew

My story today is on the Ticats' inability to get a yard when they need it the most and the things they are doing to try and correct it. My description of the potential solutions are intentionally vague because the team doesn't want to give too much away before Saturday's game in Regina.

Which leads me to another development: the Ticats have asked me to change the way I've been reporting some of the line up changes. At issue was my description of offensive line changes this week: the Cats feel that by writing about them early in the week that I was negating a possible competitive edge.

Whether this is true or not is certainly up for debate. But perception, in this case, is reality: if the Cats feel my reporting is hurting them there's no real way to prove otherwise.

All they are asking is that I wait until after Day 3 of practice before reporting any non-injury related line up changes. By that time, their opponents will have already installed their own packages and won't be able to practice any further adjustments.

While I'm always loathe to hold back information, this doesn't seem like an unreasonable request. Generally, fans have said they don't want me to report things that unduly damage the teams' ability to win games. And the Cats aren't asking me not to report something, just to alter the timing slightly. And so I will.

There are a couple of other things worth reading this morning. Mark Masters at the National Post has a story on Marcus Thigpen who says he never got a fair shot in Regina, while Rob Murphy got fined for some inappropriate tweets.

Meanwhile, former Ticat Prechae Rodriguez says he's looking forward to facing his old team this weekend.

Finally, more stadium hijinks. A new group is proposing to build a retractable roof stadium at the west harbour but the most interesting part of that story - to me anyway - is Scott Mitchell's comment that the Ticats "will never play at the west harbour."

While this has always been implied, I think it's the first time anyone from the Ticats has said clearly that the west harbour is a complete non-starter.

Finally, the track events are apparently going to be held elsewhere if Athletics Canada gets its way.

Ever time I think this can't get any weirder....
