Rob Vanstone wrote a new blog post: Interesting exchange with Jim Daley 3 days, 8 hours ago · View
I had an illuminating exchange on Wednesday with Roughriders special-teams coach Jim Daley. The dialogue was prompted by the following excerpt from my column in Wednesday’s paper: (Dominique) Dorsey has returned 38 punts for a microscopic 6.8-yard average. The coaches insist that Dorsey is not the problem, and that the blocking (or lack thereof) is to blame. [...]

A trip to the far east is always a season highlight for the Lions, not for what nightlife awaits them and those who follow along but who might be able to help them. Dr. Frank Lodato was waiting for the Lions long before the club's arrival in Montreal Wednesday and because you might recognize the name perhaps [...]

It was very amusing to watch the Stamps practise today as Jesse Newman went through his first real workout with the team since ending his brief “retirement” over the weekend. Rob Lazeo delivered the line of the day as Newman was doing separate work on the side with director of medical services Pat Clayton. “How you doing, Newman?” [...]

The Saskatchewan Roughriders returned to practice Wednesday to prepare for Sunday's Labour Day Classic against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers at Mosaic Stadium. Not surprisingly, though, much of the post-practice conversation dealt with Saturday's 17-14 loss to the Edmonton Eskimos. Quarterback Darian Durant and offensive co-ordinator Doug Berry were popular interview subjects as they were asked to discuss Durant's [...]

I took a little grief for my overstated headline yesterday " Hamilton city council has voted to support new stadium site" as council has actually voted to investigate other site possibilities, most notably Longwood and Aberdeen. We have a story on the vote as well as the two week deadline and an editorial on the subject . There is also some predictable [...]

L. Ullrich wrote a new blog post: More follies, minus Foley 4 days, 9 hours ago · View
This is what a 1-7 record brings on for a team like the Lions. Truth becomes a casualty. Factless suggestion comes from everywhere. And there's little this team can do at moment but absorb the punishment, though you are also led to wonder at times how much they choose to bring it on themselves. It was to [...]

It’s a slooooowwww day on the Riders’ front. The team has another day off, which means they have another break from the media and the questions surrounding Saturday’s 17-14 loss to the Edmonton Eskimos. We’ll fire those up when they return to practice on Wednesday. Having two days off after a loss like that makes for an interesting [...]

It appears that linebacker Rey Williams has survived the early round of cuts with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Here’s a link to a story on some of Pittsburgh’s cuts. I would guess there will be more. Teams have to reduce their rosters to 53 and those on the practice roster players by Sept. 4.

Saskatchewan Roughrider safety James Patrick has been named the CFL’s Gibson’s Finest Defensive Player of the Week. The 28-year-old also had three defensive tackles and three special team tackles in the Riders 17-14 loss to the Eskimos. So [...]

My story today is pretty straightforward – Ticats back at work – though it gets into the issue through the stomach. Many of the American players have trouble finding the kind of food they grew up with in Canada – things like Cajun, seafood, authentic Mexican and barbecue. In CFL cities that have good barbecue joints, [...]

I've had it with people griping about Darian Durant. Would some fans rather watch Nealon Greene or Michael Bishop? Durant's emergence is the best thing to happen to the Roughriders in quite some time. Anyway, I popped a few blood vessels while writing a column about the situation. For more, click HERE.

Funny how a team looks at a player when they still have a shred of cohesion and when they are 1-7 looking for help anywhere. The talk coming from the Lions Monday upon learning that Ricky Foley has been put on waivers by the Seattle Seahawks seemed considerably different than before he gave the NFL a shot [...]
